I conclude the same thing in terms of "Black Girl Awkwardness". of course Issa Rae is just a Comedic Genius and ABG is my joint:) but its like Black Women have a No-Nonsense type of strength and in a society like America where so many like to "fool around" that strength of course IS intimidating. The thing is "that" strength comes from a strong sense of Values, not being easily moved, actually and fearlessly standing for what they believe and winning, like Angela Davis for Instance, I watched the clip: a strong Black Woman with a Voice in HER TIME!! It's no wonder all hell broke loose. The Naysayers are literally clowns, and the respectability and Confidence of prominent black women is really starting to be celebrated in this society.Name calling is so elementary, but in immaturity; fear and inadequacy expresses itself like that.  less

The internet and blogs have been said to be the great equalizer, but that is only possible if you take advantage of their opportunities! If we are focusing on "other people's" lives (gossip blogs), we do not focus on things that are going on in our lives, our family and our community. Blogs have become powerful in the political, news and grass roots environment. Blogs have blossomed into TV shows and top experts on other TV shows. The internet provides a great way to bring like minds together. While we focus mostly on gossip, we are missing a great opportunity to use these tools to make life better for ourselves and our fellow man. I would suggest that we find some non-gossip blogs and make a point to visit, comment and share these blogs! We as a people have to get serious, at least sometimes!  less

When I first decided I wanted to launch a blog, I sent out a little questionnaire to friends and I was shocked to see the sites they visited the most are gossip blogs; really frivolous ones that you wouldn't expect an adult to take seriously. I admit, my entire day isn't spent visiting only prestigious websites, but the problem is when some people don't have a happy medium or take that stuff as the holy truth. That's why whenever I come across something substantial, I share it as often as possible so those around me aren't only talking about celebrity gossip. Hopefully, the blogs and websites devoted to real issues will continue to gain popularity.  less

He started out working as an investigator. The NAACP used his extremely light skin to their advantage. He was so light that he looked white (having blonde hair and blue eyes). So he would attend Klan meetings and document the atrocities that were done against Black people. He would also warn Black communities of the Klan's plans so that they could avoid harms way. It is really an interesting story and he is a great man. More people should know about this. I plan on doing a Youtube video about it.  less

What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less

Marcie, I agree on Carter G. Woodson. When I was an undergraduate student, we read his book The Mis-Education of the Negro and it opened my mind to so many possibilities. Ironically, many people that celebrate Black History Month don't even know who he is.

Walter White, was the former head of the NAACP.

I definitely need to join in on this. It sounds great. I need to get motivated again. My favorite workouts are still Billy Blanks but I'm also interested in trying new things. I've heard a lot about Insanity (I'm very scared of it) lol. But I'm willing to try it. I need to drop a few pounds and tone up.

Since my blog is getting more attention, I should start monetizing it. I know google adsense is on Blogger, but is it on Wordpress. I have heard of it before, but I didn't try it when I was on blogger because I was worried that the ads would not fit my blog. But yes I am interested in ways to monetize. I'll definitely look into some of the sites everyone mentioned. -Sherese Francis futuristicallyancient.com svfreebird87@gmail.com

@Sherese Wordpress.com does not allow google adsense. But they have implemented a new program called WordAds that you can sign up for. If you are excepted in the program, Wordpress.com will place ads on your site and you will be compensated whenever someone cicks on an ad. However, if you buy your own hosting and use Wordpress.org instead, you will have the freedom to place any ads you want on it, including google adsense.

Here is more information about WordAds:
