Thanksgiving was just a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe that despite the effort many put into preparing feasts, those who enjoyed the feasts forgot all about it 2 days later! Folks were acting like leftovers were too good for them! This got me to thinking, the pressure (external and internal) we feel to 'measure up', the fear of not being accepted and the fear of others being angry with us for not making Thanksgiving and Christmas our primary focus is not worth it!!! We really need to get back to the basics of the holidays and they include praises to God for allowing us to be here to witness another year and thankfulness for what we have and who we are.  less

They had the issues and struggles but most thought it was taboo to talk about. Therefore, they hid them from others. But thankfully, we serve the same God that was back then who can help all of us through our daily struggles. You should start either a daily blog or Facebook page for just this reason. And on it, others can read about your daily/weekly struggles along with Scriptures to help get them through. I have a quarterly magazine, Press On! webzine, www.pressonwebzine.com, with articles where I try to be transparent to help others to reach their destiny. Take care and great blog!  less

I am in the medical field and I TOTALLY understand your apprehension about taking medications. I have been so resistant with certain medications that doctor's have prescribed for me because I know the long term complications that could arise from them. As with the Naprelan, it's an NSAID, and is basically Naproxen, something you can get over the counter. Unless you already have heart issues, taking it temporarily to relieve the pain is beneficial. As anti medicine as I am, when I have pain (mainly cramps), I reach for the Naproxen, but I make sure I limit it to two days a month. The problem arises when one is on these (any) medications chronically.  less

What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less
