If only these young men could see how the world views them. They look as if they're too stupid to pull up their pants or use a belt. The only thing missing from some is the big red nose and floppy shoes. When I watch "Cops" or "Bait Car" to see these fools running from the cops holding up their pants the only thing missing is the circus music and the clown car.

At age 50 I made up my mind that I would stop seeking my mother's approval because you know what? I was never going to get it. I stopped talking to her for a year, due to her constant intrusion into my life. Unfortunately, it was the death of my only brother that brought us to speaking terms. But it was so worth it. I now can go for weeks without speaking to her, because even now she can't leave a conversation without some word of disapproval. Her words sting for a little while, but I get over it. I feel mothers that treat their children in this manner are manipulative and overbearing, intent on forcing others to kowtow to their way of thinking and living. Believe me you'll never be able to please her, this is the first hurdle you'll need to cross. Re-vamp your mindset. What ever empowering positive message "Basketball Wives" delivers is lost after viewing the complimentary, hair pulling smack downs. Corporate media makes a concerted effort to show rich black athletes and entertainment figures in the worse light, while not much is said regarding their white counterparts during their worse times. Do we really need to finish off their sorry commentaries with continued acts of idiocy from their exes on a nation wide platform? It's amazing how quickly mankind will sell it's very soul for a few dollars.  less

Little girls are idolizing the characters on these shows. There is a slow evolution occuring where desires to attend college and wanting to be doctors, lawyers, teachers, and nurses is slowing dissipating. Little Angela wants to be a reality show star because the fame and forture is so much easier this way. She wants to be the next Nene Leakes or Kim Kardashian and will sell her soul to the devil in order to have this fame. It is imperative for parents to instill early, hard, and consistently the positive influence of encouragement and strong moral values. Due to the fact that blacks have been oppressed for so long; the ones who choose to use the vehicle of success as they see it, via a reality show, opt to have the quick dollars to quench a very long held thirst to get ahead. Personally I don't think that what we have witnessed today in reality shows will get any better. I foresee it to go way beyond any of...    less

What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less
