We (black folk) come in 3 shades, and one of those shades have to be the most popular. Just so happens to be the lightest shade. Light skin has always been a phenomenon amongst our people, because light skinned black folk are the minority. But if you want to go by hip-hop video standards, I see just as many brown skin hoochies in the videos as I do the light skinned ones.

I started a blog over 2 years ago, but decided to shut it down due to some things I had to personally take care of. But the itch was still there, and I swore I would blog again. So on Jan. 13, 2012 I started blogging again, and it feels great.    I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and exchaning ideas. My blog http://thefoolishtruth.com is 2 months old, and I'm still trying to get a feel for what kind of content I would like to focus on. Also, I would like to start vlogging soon, to spice it up a little.    Check out my blog when you can, and I'm open to criticism. And I'll definitely check out your blogs as well. What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less

Just venting a little, but I know all is not lost. I've heard rave reviews about Ernessa T. Carter's "32 Candles" Has anybody read it? You are so right!  I hate going into my local bookstore and walking over to the African American Lit section only to find Toni Morrison hidden behind 80000 copies of "Candy Licker" and "Welfare Wifeys".   Rotflmao!
